Are you brushing your teeth correctly? Are you sure? Did you know that brushing incorrectly can actually hurt your smile? Today we would like to provide you with a brief description of how to properly brush your teeth to help you have a beautiful and healthy smile.
The American Dental Association, or ADA, has recommended that you brush your teeth at least two times each day. Before you do that, however, you need to make sure that you have the right kind of toothbrush for your particular needs. If you’re primary goal is to clean the hard-to-reach areas in your mouth, a brush with a small head could be the best option for you. If plaque is your primary concern, a soft bristled brush should be able to do the job.
You should take the time needed to brush thoroughly. Our dentist, as well as the ADA, recommends that you spend at least two minutes brushing your teeth. Many people rush through this routine and their smiles may suffer as a result. To help you reach this time goal, you could get a toothbrush with an automatic timer, or you could set a timer of your own.
When brushing, your toothbrush should be tilted at a 45 degree angle and short, precise strokes should be utilized to to clean all the surfaces of your teeth. Doing so could keep you from accidentally causing trauma to your mouth. You should move your brush in a gentle back and forth motion, and don’t forget to clean your tongue! Brushing your tongue can help not only your oral health overall but it can also help to keep your breath smelling fresh.
