It is important that you are clam and relaxed during your visit to the dentist’s office. If you are uncomfortable about visiting the dentist, or suffer from dental anxiety, sedatives may help.
– If you would prefer a sedative in the form of a pill or tablet, your dentist can give a prescription. However, oral sedatives need time to take effect, and should be used only as your dentist directs.
– Intravenous sedation, administered through an injection is almost instantaneous. The sedative goes directly into the bloodstream.
– For the strongest version of sedation, you may consider a general anesthesia. General anesthesia will put the patient to sleep for the duration of the treatment.
– If you would like a sedative that is effective but will not have any lingering effects, you might consider laughing gas.
